OK, so this is what has escaped the "poison cabinet", i.e. what I
dare let other people take a look at. Some of the stories are still
subject to change (not only those marked that way), so should you
want to redistribute any of them
(say in print, or on your own site), please contact me first. You
would not want to run an outdated copy, and I would not like having
stories or poems circulated before they are finished.
When I began to write stories, I considered formatting the texts as html. But then I stumbled upon the wonderful world of LaTeX (typesetting, not rubber!), which I am still wrestling with, but which nevertheless continues to amaze me. So I settled for pdf as a document format, and it seemed only appropriate to devote a story to the subject. (In case you should wonder what LaTeX source looks like, click here.) (2 pg.)
All too early, I had to say goodbye to the tomcat who had allowed me to live in his place. Here is my attempt to put my feelings into words. (3 pg.)
Sometimes, musical instruments are more than mechanical devices. So, if you are given a guitar, you may end up feeling more like its keeper than its owner. (5 pg.)
Originally, I wanted to to write about the frustration of seeing a rock band break up. It was the one I'd been with longest, and when it happened, it was not at all friendly. While I would class the other members (except the drummer) as perfect a**holes, they probably think about me in similar terms, so it evens out. The story, however, developed quite differently from what I'd planned. (11 pg.)
Cusp: A decision you cannot step away from, and that will possibly influence your further life. Sometimes, you need a person to goad you along the way, though. Sabrina had come to such a point in her life. (7 pg.)
I suppose most of you have never contemplated taking your life. But if you did, it seems easy enough, doesn't it? Simply stand in front of an approaching train, or steer your vehicle against an oncoming lorry... if you can live (or die) with the terror of the other person involved. Barbara decided to do it on her own. (5 pg.)
Brilliantly original plot: Woman falls in love. With... hmm... You decide. (18 pg.)
Escape (work in progress) A murderess and a girl with unexpected powers turn to each other, trying to begin a new life. Some mention of violence, but my therapist told me that that was all right, as long as I could c-c-control... ahem, restrict myself to writing. Yes, that's what she said. (17 pg.)
Tana was a girl with a difference for sure. But she became Helen's lifelong friend. (7 pg.)
Two not-so-young girls meet a disgruntled field worker in a bar. (3 pg.)
A fairy tale without fairies, but with a villain, not one but two damsels in distress, and a heroine (even if only in a supporting role) to help them. No knights on white horses, no dragons, but a cash register and a guitar or two. And love overcoming all obstacles. If that is not magic enough, I don't know what is. (39 pg.)
Would Heaven be heavenly if you couldn't be with your partner? There's got to be some way... (4 pg.) Sequel: First Mission (4 pg.)
